St. Michael Parish is a singing church! We invite you to come and join us in our Liturgy, either as part of the music ministry as a choir member or of the assembly. We have 3 active choirs. Our Family Choir sings at the 10 AM Mass on Sundays and Holidays from September through June. Children’s Choir sings at the 10 AM Mass 5 times throughout the school year and for the 4 PM Christmas Eve Mass. Youth Choir sings at the scheduled 5 PM Special Liturgy Masses on Sundays during the school year, which are scheduled from October through March. The organ and piano are always used for our celebrations. A variety of musical styles are sung for worship. For special Liturgical Celebrations, the music is further enhanced with the addition of flute, oboe, or brass quartet.
Music in Our Liturgy
The Church has a great and rich musical tradition that encompasses over one thousand years of repertoire. These wonderful treasures did not come into existence to be a showcase, but rather our historical repertoire has survived centuries of turmoil to point to their original creator – our Lord, who opened the minds of poets and composers, to create the hymns we sing today. As such, we always keep in mind that the reason we prepare these musical compositions with utmost diligence is to offer God the best of our labor. It is Him who turns our sounds into music, and through the power of Holy Spirit, the words and music touch people’s minds and hearts to unfold His living Word.
